The Leader Coaching Practice specialises in improving the personal effectiveness and commercial impact of business leaders.

Its founder and Practice Head, Dr Chris Edger is a prolific leadership author, coach and academic, having previously operated at executive board level in blue chip organisations.

Chris has built a strong coaching and mentoring reputation during his time in academia over the last decade, having presided over leadership programmes for some of the UK’s leading companies; coaching and developing hundreds of leaders to achieve higher levels of performance. An accredited coach he is also the inventor of the Courageous Coaching concept, the BUILD-RAISE coaching model and the ELQ9 360 Questionnaire. 

He founded the Leader Coaching Practice because he relishes working with people who want to be outstanding. In addition to drawing upon his systems and techniques the Leader Coaching Practice also draws upon the skills of coaching associates who are experts in their respective fields, namely; leadership psychology and high performance behaviours.                   

Who are we?

Dr Chris Edger PhD, MSc (ECON), MBA, PGDip, BSc (Hons), AACM, FCIPD (Practice Head) – In a commercial career spanning 23 years Chris held executive board positions as GHRD, Sales MD and Commercial Director in UK and Internationally owned leisure, FMCG drinks and hospitality organisations. Following this, during his time as a Professor in academia, he founded the Academy of Multi-Unit Leadership which has coached and developed hundreds of leaders from some of the UK’s leading companies. He is the author of numerous books including; ‘Effective Multi-Unit Leadership’ (described by a leading academic journal as ‘possibly one of the most important books of its kind this decade), ‘International Multi-Unit Leadership’, ‘Professional Area Management’, ‘Franchising – How Both Sides Can Win’ (shortlisted for the 2016 CMI/British Library Management Book of the Year and selected as one of Reed Commercial’s top five franchising reads in June 2016), ‘Effective Brand Leadership’, ‘Retail Area Management’, ‘Inspirational Leadership’ and ‘Courageous Coaching’. A graduate of four universities, including the London School of Economics, Chris’s PhD from the University of Warwick focused upon executive behaviour during critical business events.      

Dr Nollaig Heffernan PhD, MSc (Hons), HDip, BA (Hons), CPsychol (Practice Associate specialising in leadership  psychology) – After completing her MSc in Work and Organisational Psychology, Nollaig completed her PhD specialising in leadership and its psychological measurement. Since then, Nollaig – having founded the Heffernan Consultancy - has written about, and extensively lectured around the world on, leadership and mental toughness. An eminent chartered psychologist, she is the co-designer of the ILM72 psychometric test and contributed a chapter to Kogan Page’s book ‘Leadership Coaching’. Her particular specialisms are psychometric analysis, mental toughness and resolving executive stress.

Gary Harris MSc, BSc (Hons) (Practice Associate specialising in high performance behaviours); – During a thirty year career in the pharmaceutical industry Gary achieved senior positions in sales and training where he practiced and taught high impact coaching and mentoring. Additionally, as Deputy Chairman of British Rowing over the last seventeen years – one of the UK’s most successful sports over the last four Olympic cycles – and as the head coach of a number of successful crews, Gary is an expert in the art and science of high performance coaching and mentoring.
